Look closely at “Reflections.” The space around the bottles is what you see in them; Arvid offers a separate composition within the larger composition of carefully arranged wine bottles. The curves of glass and bottle in the painting become a canvas - a medium to convey the message of the painting itself - of pleasure, of gathering together, of enjoying life. The title of the piece has a double meaning for Arvid. “When I painted the piece years ago the title, “Reflections,” was about the piece itself - what I was trying to capture in the painting. Now, “Reflections” captures much more. For me, it is a time to reflect on the past. The room that you see in the painting brings back memories of old bottles of wine, old friends and old houses. It's a reflection of who I was and an exploration of who I've become.” |
