“Old Log Bridge”

My mother, Bella Lvovna, is a retired civil engineer in Russia. She helped design and build hundreds of different bridges in her career. Since I was a child, I was fascinated with the idea of a bridge itself, because bridges provide connections between places. They can be built over rivers, bays, and roads, between mountains, almost everywhere. Of course, my mom was in charge of huge heavy metal and concrete structures, but the word “bridge” still holds magic for me. It doesn't matter what material is used to build it. All of us have our own bridges that we must build and cross over. Not to speak in parables, sometimes it can be dangerous to use a bridge that is old and in poor repair, with broken parts and missing rails, and yet appearing deceptively peaceful and supportive. But you must not let that stop you; you must cross each bridge in life and reach your goal! In other words, achieving something does not require a perfect pathway. Those who stay motivated and press on will get there.
