“Passage Home”

Encountering this well-built and respected old building on Gorokhovaya Street in St. Petersburg is like meeting a dear friend. It welcomes those who enter therein with pride and dignity. Duplicated arches over the door and center section are like repeated melodious motifs. Soft snow gives the structure the hues of a gently gray-haired old woman like a babushka - a Russian grandmother. St. Petersburg is famous for its wrought-iron gates and fences, and one such gate formerly adorned the entryway to the inviting courtyard. Now the passage stands open, but to the right of the entry we see a mysterious front door that is closed. A shapely tree stands guard in the snow, matching the stately house.
