Friday Night

Likened to that of a jazz music composer, contemporary painter Michael Flohr’s complex and lyrical style is marked by improvisation. He captures the spirit of a scene through his signature use of intricate color arrangement and impulsive brush strokes. This collective improv of syncopated color rhythm and open form is a result of pure spontaneity and artistic genius.

The vibrant virtuosity of Flohr’s style lies in his ability to artistically encapsulate his first impressions of a particular scene. Representative of his urban storytelling, “Friday Night” is a subdued, yet engaging image featuring unusual perspective and rich color composition. Decisively stark with a playful moodiness, Flohr uniquely utilizes a void of activity to create his artistic statement for this piece. The artist is constantly searching for different ways to approach the creative process. In “Friday Night”, Flohr intentionally exploits the light emanating from the background of the scene to create depth and intrigue (most often the artist will pull light forward in his work to create this dimension).

This uniquely stylized, technical twist allows the artist to transform the ceiling into a seductive, floating path into the story yet to unfold. Validating his innovative viewpoints through propulsive color arrangement and spontaneous technique, Michael Flohr is an artist set apart by his ability to transform a glimpse of the ordinary into extraordinary works of art.
