When Michael was attending the prestigious San Francisco Academy of Art, he would visit the Buena Vista cafe and sit for hours sketching the patrons and Fred, the bartender who has become a fixture at the BV for over 30 years. Michael became good friends with Fred and has used his image in several of his paintings.
