“Alexei's Pride”

On an Amsterdam canal we see typical houseboats and buildings and “Dutch garages” - a bicycle berthed at every tree! One large house has a distinctive turret on the corner. Who can live there? Can it be a damsel in distress? The cloud-strewn sky, the fleeting clouds, skylight reflected on the water, all make for a peaceful setting for the houseboat bearing my name in the foreground. I painted “Alexei” on the boat as a Russian Kilroy might do to show that I was there, and to express my wish that I could stay!
